What people are saying about Newlands Coach Services

...I never cease to be amazed at the kindness and support of total strangers.  Just last week with my two small babies, a pram and bags, and getting on the bus in Courtney Place , it was like Goofie’s day out.

A total stranger stepped forward and offered to hold my one-year-old while I folded the pram and paraphernalia to fit it into the bus.  And not just that the bus driver (Newlands Coach Service) at my stop at the other end held my sleeping baby while he raced after my two-year-old as she skipped down the road, while I unfolded the pram and gathered my bits.

More to the point he was strolling along with my two little girls with a smile.  While we were on the bus another perfect stranger supported my two-year-old while I held my one-year-old.  I didn’t have to ask anyone of these people for help, thanks to all of you for your support, and this was just one of my usual sort of days..."
Jennifer Ross, Johnsonville (The Independent Herald 23/11/04 )

One evening last week I was coming home from work and got into the Mana Newlands Coach Service bus No 54, the Grenada Village bus. This is my usual practice.

The driver greeted me warmly with kind words, smiles and courtesy. He always does that to every single passenger who gets into the bus.

At the railway station, a passenger with a severe physical disability got into the bus. The driver could not understand where he wanted to go. After several attempts he figured out that the passenger wanted to go to Johnsonville.

The passenger dropped money all over the place. The driver picked it up and offered him the same service and courtesy that he offered everyone else.

When the passenger got off the bus, the driver said, "Thank you very much sir, have a lovely evening sir, see you later". I take my hat off to him.

Is this an example of Kiwi culture, or was he just being human? Whatever it is, I am glad to be part of it!
